LIBRARIES
The Shire of Roebourne has four libraries
at Karratha, Dampier, Roebourne and Wickham. The Karratha Community
Library is situated at the PilbaraTAFE and is a joint use library
serving the public as well as the staff and students of the College.
The Karratha Community Library has many resources including Aboriginal,
Pilbara and Language Learning Collections. It also houses the Shire's
Local History Collection.
All
libraries are serviced by the State Library of Western Australia which provides regular exchanges of new books.
All Shire residents may use the libraries free of charge and can
use their library card to borrow from any of the libraries. Initial
loan period is 2 weeks. All Libraries offer word processors and
Internet access. Photocopiers are available for
public use. The Shire Libraries also conduct story telling sessions
for pre-school children. Please enquire at your local library for
times and days.
State Library of Western Australia - The following databases are licensed under a state-wide agreement and are available for use from home using your Western Australian public library membership card number.

LITTERTHONS
In an effort to keep the Shire litter
free, the Ranger Services provides a Litter Control Service. The
service includes organising the Clean-Up Australia Day Programme
and the Tidy Town Awards.
If
you are involved with a Community Group that wishes to fund raise,
the Ranger Services can help by giving you a roadside to clean,
issuing collection bags and sponsoring $4.00 for every bag of litter
collected. Please contact the Ranger Services on 9186 8528 for further
information if you wish to participate in this Scheme. Ranger
Services carries out Education Programmes on littering and the dangers
it poses to the environment.
LOCAL
HISTORY
The Shire boasts a comprehensive working local history collection
containing maps, plans, documents, photographs, newspapers, ephemera
and oral history recordings. These are housed at the Karratha Community
Library. For more information, please contact the Local History
